Dear Daughter Guo Sha,
Happy Birthday! Your Baba and Mama think about you every day. A few weeks ago, a lady wrote me a letter. She met you when she visited the childrens house. She looked at your picture book to see what state we live in. A state in the United States is like a province in China. We live in Utah. It is very pretty, with mountains, rivers, and canyons. It is warm in the summer, but not as hot as Wuchuan, but it is colder in the winter. It even snows! She said your teacher was teaching you some English words. We are very proud of you. English is not easy, but you are a smart girl. I hope you will teach us some Mandarin words.
Are you afraid to live some place new with your Baba and Mama? Don't be afraid. We might look different and sound different at first, but soon you won't notice. We will always take care of you and make sure you are happy. Your new family likes to eat together and laugh and learn new things. We like to have fun and go places.
All the kids have started school again. Kids here don't go to school in the summer. We will send a picture of your school and your house and your room next time. And a picture of the swimming pool. It is near your house, so we can go every day in the summer, if you want to. Your Grandma got you something. It is a big table for artists with holders for pencils and paintbrushes. Mama painted your room and put some flowers and butterflies on the walls. Your Aunt Carrie got you some school supplies, crayons, and drawing paper.
We will come as soon as we can. I know it feels like a long time. It feels like a long time for me and Baba too. I keep your picture with me in a necklace, so I can see you every day. We love you and we can't wait to meet you in China!
Love,
Baba and Mama
A few days later we were emailed some pictures from the orphanage. She looks so happy!!
